The civil unrest in Kwa-Zulu Natal in 2021, which resulted in the loss of over 300 lives, extensive damage amounting to millions of Rand, and the displacement of thousands of individuals, underscored the pressing need for professionals from diverse fields to collaborate with law enforcement, local authorities, and emergency services to enhance service delivery effectively.
In response to the call for professional assistance in surveillance services using drones, Hussar Drone Unit established the Public Safety Support Unit (PSSU) in Richards Bay, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Since its inception in 2021, the PSSU has actively participated in various high-profile police operations, such as major drug busts and aerial videography of crime scenes. Additionally, the unit has conducted crime-stopping drone missions for the uMhlatuze Municipality, engaged in numerous search and rescue operations, and initiated the training of police drone pilots for real-world operations post-certification.
Our ongoing commitment to public safety support has been solidified by the signing of a partnership agreement with the South African Police Services on an ongoing project entitled ‘Drone Partnership King Cetswayo District’, which was a local initiative but which has national authorisation and relevance.
Operating on private funding, the PSSU faces limitations in its availability to provide critical support services consistently. To address this challenge and establish the unit as a permanent fixture, we appeal for your generous donations towards this cause. Your support will enable the Hussar PSSU to continue its mission of safeguarding communities and ensuring public safety.
Join us in solidifying the presence of the PSSU as a dedicated and reliable unit by contributing to our fundraising efforts. Together, we can make a tangible difference in keeping our communities safe and secure. Thank you for your support.
