Privacy and Drone Imagery Statement
Hussar Security and Defence Solutions (Pty) Ltd respects the right to privacy and is committed to protecting personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Our commitment
We process personal information only when there is a lawful and legitimate reason to do so. We limit the information collected to what is necessary, restrict access to authorised persons, and apply appropriate safeguards against loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure.
Privacy during drone operations
The nature of aerial operations means that a drone’s camera may show people, vehicles, homes or activities within its flight path or operational area. These persons may have no connection to the operation.
Hussar protects their privacy through the following measures:
• Routine drone operations do not involve the recording or storage of video footage.
• Live video feeds may be viewed only by duly authorised personnel who form part of the operation and are bound by applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements.
• Live feeds may not be rebroadcast, screen-recorded, photographed, published or displayed to unauthorised persons.
• Recording may be activated only where there is reasonable suspicion of an active or imminent crime, security incident or other specifically authorised evidential event.
• Any recording must be limited to the relevant incident and must stop when the operational or evidential need ends.
• Recognisable images of persons who are not involved in an incident will not be published, distributed or otherwise disclosed unless this is necessary and lawful for an authorised incident response, criminal investigation, prosecution, court proceeding or other binding legal requirement.
• Incident recordings are securely stored, access-controlled and retained only for as long as required for the authorised purpose, an investigation, legal proceedings or another lawful obligation.
• Drone footage is not collected for entertainment, general observation, marketing or public distribution.
Where footage is approved for training, reporting, demonstrations or public communication, identifiable non-involved persons and unnecessary personal details will be removed, blurred or appropriately de-identified.
Sharing of information
Hussar does not sell personal information or drone footage.
Information is shared only where there is a lawful and necessary reason to do so. Potential recipients may include authorised client representatives, law-enforcement officials, prosecution authorities, courts or other legally empowered authorities. Only the information necessary for the relevant purpose will be shared.
